They just didn't produce the last few years so I'm done with them. I do love watermelon though.

I'm trying potatoes for the first time. I planted them and onions back in March since the taters have to be in by St. Patricks day. I will plant 3 tomatoes, bush green beans, Sugar Snap peas, lots of sweet, green & hot peppers and 2 cucumbers. I'm not sure if I'll plant zucchini and squash this year since we had so much last year. I think I might cut the plant in half once it starts producing to help cut down on how much we get. I also want to put out pumpkins again but they take up so much room. I did get about 200 mini pumpkins last year and 25 or so of the big ones.

As for the ground cover we use wheat straw from our wheat fields.

I also use walls of water to protect/incubate my plants for the first month or really until they are spilling out of the top. I swear by those walls of water. I'm usually the first here in my office to pick produce.

Now that I've written a novel....your garden looks great!! I just hope warm weather comes to NW KS soon so I can get out and work in my garden.carrielthttp://carrielt.wordpress.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1059191684177040317.post-76225215587799158792011-05-02T10:33:59.145-04:002011-05-02T10:33:59.145-04:00I have a small 10x200 foot garden this year. My tip is to have a husband who loves to garden (not much help sorry) but I'd also check your zuchinni daily and pick them before they get too big, they grow so fast! I have no tips for you because this is my first year doing it. :)SplendidlyImperfecthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03798649697960237749noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1059191684177040317.post-68158095183349061022011-05-01T21:11:57.576-04:002011-05-01T21:11:57.576-04:00oh good, free salad ingredients!oh good, free salad ingredients!Running Ricighttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12860478500819594235noreply@blogger.com
