Ghirardelli Brownies

Hello my name is Kat and I'm a chocoholic.

This was the first New Year's that Jon and I spent on our own (due to the fast approaching due date).  We did try to make the most of it by setting up a rather intense game of monopoly, watching the ball drop, and eating delicious Ghirardelli brownies.

I know you're super jealous that this isn't how you spent your New Year's eve but there's always next year.

And yes, my husband reads directions.  To everything.  I do not.  Ever.

But I am always the banker.  Because I love monies.  Especially of the fake variety.  Because, you know, you can't spend it all on shoes.

Anyways, this is about the brownies.  Of the Ghirardelli variety.

What you'll need:
  • 2/3 cup butter or stick margarine (you can use the 65% vegetable oil kind if you want to be healthy)
  • 15 tablespoons Ghirardelli cocoa
  • 5 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 and 3/4 cups sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • and whatever else you want i.e chocolate chips, walnuts (about a cup)
Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees.  Grease the bottom and sides of a baking pan with shortening (you can do a 13x9 or a 9x9).

Melt the butter, cocoa, and oil in a small saucepan over low heat, stirring constantly.  Cool 5 minutes.

Beat sugar, vanilla, and eggs in medium bowl with electric mixer on high speed 5 minutes.  Beat in chocolate mixture on low speed, scraping the bowl occasionally.

Beat in flour just until blended, scraping bowl occasionally.  Stir in whatever other goodies you decided to add.  We don't like to ruin the dark chocolate goodness of Ghirardelli.

Spread in pan.

Try to not lick your fingers, the mixer blades, scrapers, etc because this does contain raw eggs.  My husband, however, does not seem to care.

Bake 25-45 minutes (depending on which size pan you used) or just until brownies begin to pull away from sides of pan (you can do the toothpick test too).

  4. Visiting from Marriage Confessions... Those brownies look amazing!

And my husband and I are just like you guys with the directions. I am way too impatient to read the fine print. That's why I married him - to make sure SOMEONE reads the rules!

  5. those brownies looks delicious! unfortunately I am banned by my husband to make anything fattening over the next few months since we fattened up nicely over Christmas. We had a similarly exciting new years playing Balderdash

  6. Hi, Kat. I'm Emily. And I'm a chocoholic, too. Seriously, these look amazing! We often buy the boxed Ghirardelli brownies at the grocery store, but these look infinitely more delicious. (PS Don't feel lame about your New Years Eve, we spent ours playing Yahtzee and Farkle. And we're not even pregnant!)
