A Glimpse - Day 7

Well, folks, it’s Sunday.  Which means that this is officially my last post in the Glimpse series.  I’m not going to lie to ya - I’m going to miss these.  It’s been a ton of fun!

This morning Peanut woke up just after 6am (which, in case you haven’t noticed, is the exact same time she wakes up every single morning).  I fed her in bed, then played a bit while I pumped.

Since Jon looked all peaceful and stuff, I let him sleep in while Peanut and I played in the basement, aka the playroom.

IMG_2517IMG_2518IMG_2519IMG_2520IMG_2521IMG_2522

Around 8am she was ready for her first nap, so I put her in her crib (where she fussed a bit but fell asleep), and got myself some breakfast (yogurt, banana, and coffee).

IMG_2523

The new Crate & Barrel catalogue came, which means that I spent the rest of Peanut’s nap rearranging some of our kitchen and living room.

Jon woke up, saw the Crate & Barrel catalogue, saw me walking around our living room, moving stuff, nodded knowingly, and went to brush his teeth.

At 9am Peanut woke up from her nap, so I fed her and we continued our play.

IMG_2526IMG_2527IMG_2528IMG_2529IMG_2530IMG_2531

She’s very bossy.  I guess at least she knows what she wants and doesn’t take “no” for an answer (unless you want to hear a wailing baby for hours on end).

Jon and I took turns watching the kid and getting some chores done.  In addition to moving all the accessories and some electronics between the two rooms, I also vacuumed, got some laundry going, and cooked.  Jon dusted, continued the laundry, and cleaned up the bathroom.

Then I gave the dog a haircut and a bath.

IMG_2532

He was not a fan.

Peanut took a nap from noon until 1, at which point Jon fed her abottle because I was still cutting the dog’s hair.  I ended up pumping right after.

Somewhere in here we also ate lunch (turkey, cheese, avocado, tomato and lettuce on whole wheat).

To prepare for the week (since we actually have groceries now), I made us some of these mini lasagnas,

IMG_2533

and these cookies.

IMG_2535

Peanut took her last nap from 2:45pm until about 3:30pm.  While I was feeding her, she fell back asleep.

IMG_2540

I didn’t have the heart to bother her, so I just sat around, playing on my phone for a half hour or so until she woke up.

Apparently, rainy days make everybody sleepy.

IMG_2542

after some more play time in the basement,  we fed Peanut dinner (sweet potato, green beans, and yellow squash), then had some dinner ourselves (the mini lasagnas).

I think you all know the drill here.

Bath,

play time, then bed for Peanut around 7:30pm.

After she goes to bed, I’ll take a bath, do my nails (it’s my Sunday ritual), and settle down on the couch next to my husband to watch the finale of Food Network Star and blog.

Ah Sundays, how I love you.

Back to regular blogging schedule tomorrow.  Starting with a weekly recap.

Are you going to miss seeing my boring, monotonous days?

I’m dying to see your weeks - if you’re up for it!

A Glimpse - Day 6

First and foremost, did you enter the Giveaway for a $25 gift card to amazon.com?

Secondly, excuse me as I slow down in the posts after this weekend and begin working on transferring my blog to Wordpress.  I’m still not sure what I’ll end up doing, but I did select a host and bought all the stuff I need.  My initial plan is to try it myself, most likely mess things up, and then pay someone to fix it.  Like my plan?   Got any advice to give me?

Now let’s talk about our Saturday.

Peanut doesn’t seem to understand that it’s the weekend no matter how much we try to explain it to her, so she woke up at 6am.

I dragged her into bed with us and fed her.  Then I pumped while she played and Jon snored next to me (ok, he doesn’t actually snore but I’m a little bitter about the fact that he got to sleep in).

Actually, I should tell you that I got way too involved in my blog transfer last night and we didn’t end up going to bed until way too late…later than we have gone in over a year!  So waking up this morning was painful.

Around 7:30am we were all still hanging out in bed, so I grabbed Peanut her pacifier and let her fall asleep between us (don’t worry, I removed all pillows, blankets, etc from around her and made sure we were all super safe).  That lasted a total of 30 minutes when she woke up, crying.  I fed her again and nudged (I actually pushed and shoved) Jon to wake up and take her.  Then I tried to fall back asleep.

Jon took Peanut downstairs to play while I tossed and turned, then finally, gave up.

Around 9am I got up, made us some breakfast, fed Peanut her breakfast, poured a coffee.

IMG_2503

Breakfast: croissant with cheese and turkey pepperoni.

After breakfast, Jon got in the shower while I played with the baby.

IMG_2504

Then we traded.

IMG_2512

Around 11:30am I pumped, packed the milk, put Peanut in the car seat to fall asleep and we headed out to Mystic.

IMG_2513

We got stuck in some silly traffic, which meant that Peanut woke up a little earlier than we expected (we planned for her to sleep through the whole drive).  I climbed in the back and entertained her while we finished the drive.

We got to the Mystic Aquarium around 12:50pm and used our library pass for a discounted ticket price.  Peanut loved seeing all the bright fish and the kids running around.

IMG_2515

There were so many kids!  And a ton of babies.  Apparently, we weren’t the only ones with the bright idea to go to the aquarium.

After we visited all the fishes, penguins, turtles, and sea lions, we went across the street and checked out the Mystic village and the car show.

We walked around, got some grilled cheese sandwiches (with roasted spinach, garlic, and pesto), then around 3:20pm we headed home while Peanut napped in the car.

At home, I fed her and headed out to the grocery store (I was getting rather sick of take out) while Jon mowed our overgrown lawn.  (Are you noticing a theme at my house? It’s called we-re-behind-on-everything.)

At home, I made Peanut some more fruit options (we were running low) by cooking, mashing and freezing pears, peaches, nectarines, and plums.  I even saved some of the plum juice to give to her instead of buying the concentrate stuff.  She loved it!

After dinner for Peanut (green beans and sweet potato), Jon gave her a bath while I finished her food (I made 4 ice cube trays).   Then we all played until 7:20pm.  I nursed Peanut to bed, we ate dinner (leftovers from past couple nights) and we settled on the couch.

I pumped and got myself a beer.  Now I’ll be here, messing around with Wordpress until (hopefully) 10pm when we’ll head to bed.

Tomorrow is the last day in the series!  Are you thinking of doing it?  It’s been so much fun!

A Glimpse - Day 5

Today started off just like any other week day to date.

Wake up.  Feed baby in bed.  Pump and play.  Shower and get dressed.

IMG_2480IMG_2481IMG_2482IMG_2483

What?  This isn’t how you guys play in the morning?  For the record, Travis is not a fan of this game.  By the way, this is what she makes us do pretty much 24/7 - walk, walk, walk, walk, walk.  Turn.  Walk, walk, walk.  Our backs are not big fans, but she’s so cute, we don’t say no.

I had to conduct some interviews for an open position at work today, so I had to run out the door y 7:30am.

IMG_2485

And get way overdressed for Fridays (it’s my “jean” day).  For another record, there isn’t a strict dress code at work.  I just really like dressing up.  Fridays is the only day I will wear jeans.  I know - I’m a weirdo.

My breakfast consisted of a donut and a half along with some coffee.

7:45am until about noon I did interviews (breaking at 10am between candidates to pump).  Then I worked on some tickets and stuffed leftover pizza in my face.  Along with these.

IMG_2487

At 12:30pm our daycare called and said Peanut refused to eat anything at school.  I panicked, called Jon and our pediatrician.  The pediatrician was at lunch until 1:30pm, but we received a call from daycare at 1 letting us know she took in 4 ounces (because they told her that they called mommy).  I breathed out.

After “lunch,” I had a meeting followed by a meeting followed by, you guessed it, meeting.

Kari, Emily and I decided that we would switch our chairs up for these balance balls to help strengthen our core.

Mine was a little floppy, so Kari blew it up.

IMG_2488

Naturally, I made a lot of inappropriate, immature jokes.

By 5 I was ready to call it quits and headed out the door.

After picking up Peanut, who was shockingly fussy, I headed home and fed her and let her take a 15 minute nap in my arms while Jon and I caught up on each other’s day.

Around 6pm Jon took over while I decided to make Peanut some beans.

IMG_2489

I had a bag or organic and a bag of store brand.  Check out the color difference.

IMG_2492

Peanut was not a big fan (or maybe she was just generally fussy today).

IMG_2493IMG_2494IMG_2495

We ended up giving her some sweet potato instead.

IMG_2497

After dinner and bath, Peanut and daddy had a bottle while I made us dinner (I still haven’t gone grocery shopping, but I was feeling pretty guilty about all this take out).

IMG_2498IMG_2499IMG_2500

For dinner: crab cakes with chipotle ranch dressing instead of mayo and whole wheat breading.  Sweet peas on the side.

The sweet peas were our side because I started making them for Peanut, then realized that they contained sodium.   I google babies at 6 months and sodium.  I don’t think I want her to have sodium yet.  So we ate them.

We ate in front of the TV around 8pm, I pumped (I only had a couple of sips of my wine while I cooked), and now we’re being our usual couch potatoes.

Tonight I plan to drink 2-3 glasses of delicious red wine while looking into Wordpress and seeing if I want to do it myself or find someone to transfer me.

Jon is a having a couple of beers and reading www.damnyouautocorrect.com and watching Diners, Drive-ins and Dives (yes, we pretty much just watch the Food Network every night; that and my crappy television when I get remote privileges).

Bedtime might be pushed back to 10:30pm.

Hey, it’s Friday night.  Gotta walk on the wild side.

A Glimpse - Day 4

This morning Jon was gone by 6 am for a work thingy so I had to hold down the front on my own.  That means that I had to wake up, grab P, feed her in bed, play with her while pumping, then somehow get her dressed, shower, get myself dressed, put on make up, not look like a slob, let the dog out, make sure he comes home alive, feed the dog, pack my pump stuff (and not forget pieces, see Day 3), pack the baby stuff (and not forget her stuff...that also happens about once a week), grab everything and head out the door all before 7:45am.

IMG_2457

Let's see how I did.

6am: pick up the baby, feed her in bed.

6:25am: set up pump stuff (hands-free), entertain the baby.

6:45am: finish pumping, pick up the baby and drag her to the kitchen with me.  Somehow manage to keep her upright on the counter without knocking anything over with her grubby little hands while unhooking my pump stuff, capping the bottles and storing them in the fridge.  Kat -1, spilled milk-0.  I won this round.

6:50am: let dog outside.  Change the baby out of her 20-pound diaper, air out the bottom to keep diaper rash away, get her dressed into her outfit, brush her hair.

7:00am: let the dog back inside.  He's been barking at the door for 10 minutes.  I asked him if he peed and pooped, but he just nosed his way past my legs and into the living room. I shrugged.  The baby laughed.  The two of us (humans) put some food in his bowl, told him to go eat his food.  He looked at me, wagged his tail and settled on the rug in the living room.  I shrugged.

7:05am: I popped the baby in the bouncer and moved the bouncer to the bathroom, got in the shower and proceeded to sing the Itsy Bitsy Spider and Patty Cake while showering to keep the baby from becoming too bored and crying in the bouncer.  After my 3 minutes shower (I wasn't taking any risks plus I wash my hair every other day...long story), I grabbed the baby out of the bouncer that she was whining in and put her on the bed, loading her up with toys.

7:10am: got dressed, brushed hair, put on make-up.  Turned around about 15 times to hand the baby a new toy so she would stop asking to be picked up and walked around the house (probably in the direction of the recycling).  Sprayed hair with dry shampoo, sprayed it with scrunching stuff, scrunched, put on a head band. Pick up now-crying baby.

7:35am: tell the dog to eat his food again.  Watch him wag his tail and ignore me.  Pack up the baby stuff.  Pack up the pump stuff.  Take it all out and make sure I got everything.  Re-pack.  Put the baby in the car seat.  Scratch my head about how to pick everything up and head out the door in as few trips as possible while wearing heels.  Bring the dog to the basement and put him in his crate.

7:45am: walk out the door.  1 trip.

IMG_2460IMG_2462IMG_2464

Go ahead and applaud.

The rest of the day went about the same as the last two.

Work.  Eat breakfast and have a coffee.  Pump at 10:30am.  Eat and apple.  Have another cup of coffee. Work.

IMG_2468

ps- Like my shoes?

IMG_2466

My super-trendy and super-fashionable sister-in-law got these as our Bridesmaid shoes for her wedding.  I am absolutely in love with them and wear them often - hence the scuff marks.

Lunch: chicken with broccoli over brown rice, egg roll and water.  I swear this almost never happens, but since I haven't gone grocery shopping in over 2 weeks (there are actual tumble weeds rolling through my fridge as we speak...seriously) plus Jon left too early and didn't make me any lunch (that's his daily chore; mine's dinner), I had very little choice.

IMG_2470

Okay, okay, I had plenty of choices but since I'm super important (see Day 3) and had to work through lunch plus I was starting to turn into a monster because I was hungry, I just went with it.  At least I got brown rice.  The end.

I lied - not the end.  I ate the entire thing.  Yup.  Now, the end.

IMG_2471

Work some more.  Pump at 2:30pm.  Have another snack.  Work.

IMG_2469

Watch the creepster walk by.

IMG_2472

At 5pm I got a text message from Jon that he would pick Peanut up, so I headed home.

Where this package was waiting for me!

IMG_2473

We set it up and played for a while.

IMG_2474

Then realized that we need to buy 2 more sets to fill out the “playroom” area in the basement.   Oh well, good thing that we have some more amazon points that we can use.

At 6:15pm we fed the baby (homemade yellow squash from our garden), played for a while in her room, fed her and put her to bed.

Jon ran out and got us a pizza (I have no groceries in the house, I’m not kidding) with half olives (for him) and half peppers and onions (for me).   By 7:50pm our butts were in their respective couch indents where we stuffed our faces and watched Chopped.

I pumped early today (8:30pm) and got Peanut’s bottles ready for tomorrow.  Now it’s time for some blogging, possibly a glass of wine, and more vegging and being couch potatoes.  Bedtime at 10pm.

PS- TOMORROW IS FRIDAY! Smile
