Okay - this might be the toughest post because I feel like my life is all about movies and how could I ever pick 5! I decided that I would at least split them up into categories that way I had to eliminate less titles. Between our infinite amount of channels that we subscribe to via Comcast, Netflix, Netflix via Wii, DVR, and a rather extensive DVD collection you'd think we'd be content. But Jon and I always find ourselves renting movies, going to the theater, and ordering them on Demand. I have no idea how it is that we are so into movies, but we both are, so it works out.
Back to the point here. These are in no particular order as usual.
Slackers
I love this movie. Don't ask me why. Well, I guess technically I volunteered to tell you why by writing this, didn't I? Because it's funny. And Devon Sawa was once cute (remember Casper and Now and Then?) . He's really not that cute here, but very lovable. This is a totally awesome flick to turn on when you've watched all your DVD's, rented all the movies there are to rent, and exhausted your Comcast choices.
40 Days and 40 Nights
Technically, I only watched it the first 5 times because I had a very big crush on Josh Hartnett pretty much all through college. But the next 20+ were because it's so freakin' funny and very cute. It's my top pick for a lazy Sunday afternoon.
America's Sweethearts
Okay, so this one started because my sister and I were bored one afternoon. We watched it and made fun of it. Then another afternoon we watched it again and made fun of it some more. Then we watched it again. And again. And now I know most of the lines and not just because we spent so much time making fun of it.
John Tucker Must Die
Yeah, okay. This one's a bit embarrassing, but we're all pals here right? You're judging, aren't you? I bet you're even wondering if I'm really a 13 year old behind this here computer screen. Well I happen to be...well...age is just a number and what girl likes to give hers away? Let's just say I'm way too old to love this movie, but have you seen John Tucker? Ladies, in one of the scenes he wears a thong. 'Nough said. Although you might want to watch this one without the husband/boyfriend/male-roommate.
10 Things I Hate About You
So I had to change these movies like 15 times before I settled, but I would never leave this one off my top 5 list. I absolutely adore Julia Stiles in just about every movie and the main character's name is Kat, so this is pretty much a winner in my book. I love the idea of a strong-willed, outcast older sister with a very sweet, popular little sister. I guess it reminds me of my life growing up. I was into snowboarding and hanging out with just about anyone outside of my grade while my sister was a cheerleader. No animosity between the 2 of us though - I think the way we were raised didn't allow for that.
To be honest with you, I could go on all day because Romantic Comedies just happens to be my all-time favorite category. I chose based on movies that I could watch again and again - which are very few and far between. In fact, I rarely even buy DVD's (although Jon loves to) because I can't imagine wanting to watch a movie more than once unless it's our lazy Sunday and USA/TNT/ABC Family/etc is playing a movie and we're too lazy to change the channel. But the 5 above are movies I either own and/or can watch almost endlessly.
What are you favorite romantic comedies? Extra points if you have one I haven't seen.

OK, my top 5. Quickly done. I may change.
ReplyDelete5. Keeping the Faith. I guess. Filling a spot.
4. Moonstruck. Even though I'm usually not a fan of Nic Cage OR Cher.
3. Shag. We watched that a MILLION times in college.
2. Amelie. Cutest movie ever, even if it's in French.
1. When Brendan Met Trudy. LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE. Wrote a paper about it for my film course in Ireland. Not sure it's even available in the states.
