So I don't know if you've ever heard of this thing they call "pregnancy brain." Until a few months ago I've never heard of it before. But now I've gotten to know it up close and personal. Allow me to explain.
It all started a couple of months ago. Poor innocent unsuspecting me was going about my day as usual. La-di-da. And just as my work day was coming to an end, I packed up my belongings and headed down to my car. When I got there, I stood in front of the driver's side door and stared. Something seemed to be off. But I couldn't put my finger on it. I stood there a little longer, wondering why I felt so off. A couple of minutes later I decided that it must have been nothing and went to get in my car.
Here is where things were off. I had no way to get into my car because I didn't have my keys.
That's right. I shook my head (at myself) and walked back into the office and up to my floor and over to my desk to grab my keys. I wondered how I could have done that to myself as I walked back down to my car. I opened the door and got in. That's when I decided to call Jon to see when he would be home. I looked at the keys in my hand and realized that I left my cell phone upstairs at my desk.
I shook my head (at myself, again) and headed back up. I grabbed my phone and headed back down to my car. That's when I realized I left my purse upstairs.
I can see how some folks would say, Hey! This happens to me from time to time. But here's the thing. It doesn't happen to me. Ever. I'm never forgetful. I don't lose things. I don't leave things behind. It just isn't me. I gots a trap of steel!
But wait, there's more.
A few days later I came in to work and went on my merry way. I checked my e-mails, did some work, got some snacks, walked around and talked to some peeps in the office. I even took a couple of walks around the building for a refreshing break.
Then around lunch time I realized that I was wearing two different shoes.
Oh, sure, they were both flip flops. But one was gray and the other was brown. As in extremely light gray, rubber flip flop versus cloth brown flip flop. Yup. That happened. Twice.
But wait, there's more!
I was making cookies a couple of days ago. (Side note - I got the ingredients wrong. Twice! What is wrong with me?!) Once I finally got them all set up on a cookie sheet and in the oven, I was preparing another cookie sheet full of cookies. I opened the oven and grabbed the first cookie sheet to move it over. With my hand. And no glove.
Now I can technically go to rob a bank and as long as I use those two fingers to grab everything, there will be no finger prints.
Don't worry, I only took off the top layer or two so they'll come back.
So ladies and gentlemen, please be careful when getting pregnant as you might be affected by pregnancy brain.

ReplyDeleteWow and ouch! It sounds like I am in horrible trouble when time comes for me to be pregnant...I am already more forgetful than my 85 yr old gramma! Hopefully your brain will resort to normal for you as soon as peanut arrives. :)
