Let’s talk about poop

If you don’t enjoy tales of baby poop, move right along.  Or go over to It’s a Dog Lick World to read about more poop.

Yesterday, Jon and I were getting ready for dinner while Peanut was hanging out in her exersaucer.  Peanut seemed totally content and when it was time to sit everyone down at the table, I lifted her out of her exersaucer and put her on my hip.  She smiled.

And then I smelt it.

Let me go back a couple of weeks and tell you that I am embarrassed to admit it, but I can’t take the new poop.  A couple of weeks after her first solids, Peanut’s poop changed from being this non-smelly stuff I could deal with to pasty, yucky, smelly poop.  And I can’t take it.  As in, I gag.  Meanwhile, Jon doesn’t seem to mind.

Now let’s fast forward to yesterday.  And that smell.  I looked at Peanut and asked her if she pooped.  She smiled her toothless smile at me.  So I smelled her butt, which stunk.  Then I looked at her leg…and noticed a huge glob of poo hanging out of her diaper.

That’s when I, maturely, started gagging and yelling for Jon to help me.  He came over and I showed him Peanut while handing her over.  Then I looked at the exersaucer, which was covered in poo.  And my shirt, which was covered in poo.  Then I gagged.  And whined.  And gagged.  Jon was standing there, laughing, while holding the poopy Peanut.  Then he looked at me seriously and said that there was a huge glob of poop that’s about to fall on the floor.  I looked around, seeing nothing and reached out and caught the huge glob of poop in my hand.  Then I gagged.  While holding poop in my hand.

Jon just kept laughing and headed for the baby room.  I gagged.  Washed the poop from my hand, changed my shirt, gagged, and went in to help.

After almost 15 minutes of cleaning poop off Peanut’s legs, back, arms, and belly button, she was finally clean and still smiling.  And ready to eat some more food that will make her poop.

I guess it’s all just a vicious cycle.  Gag.

  1. hahaah...this is the one thing I don't miss about having a teeny snuggly baby. I always say I want one when I see Peanut, but ha, thanks for the reminder I might not!

  2. Hehehe, I can feel your pain! We were at the airport dropping my in-laws off and Chicken was in the baby bjorn when we smelt that familiar pong. It took Andrew and I fifteen minutes together in the baby room to clean her up. We'd bought no spare clothes and naturally everything except her t-shirt was covered in poop. I think we used up half a packet of wipes, no fun!

  3. Isn't a good thing they're cute? Because MAN, their poop is smelly. I've had poop smeared on my hands more times than I'd like to count and I love my utility sink for rinsing poop out of baby clothes.

Cleaning poop out of an exersaucer is a pain, so have fun with that :)

  6. Oh boy. She's definitely your kid to keep smiling through the whole ordeal. Okay ... maybe more Jon than you at that point. :)

  8. I feel your pain! Thankfully our little guy is pretty regular and I know (most of the times) when to expect it. As I put him on his changing table I joke that he's on the "pooping station" and let him have at it!

  9. Ha. I'm sorry, but this post totally made me crack up. I've heard there is always a "picker" in each relationship, one that deals with the bad poops, etc. I can tell from having a dog that person will be me when we have kids. My husband is a total gagger.

  10. There's nothing quite like catching a glob of poop in your hand. You have fully been initiated into motherhood! The only thing worse is when diarrhea is coming out one end and puke out the other. But hopefully you'll be able to recover from this first before anything like that comes your way! I've scrubbed my share of poop too and am happy that we've passed that point in our lives! But with 4 kids, the adventures never end!

Enjoy the rest of the commenting challenge! It has really been fun so far!

  11. It feels like the days of poopslosions last forever... but they don't... promise!

One time, Hubby was trying to change a poopslosion that went down't Eli's legs, and when he laid Eli down on the changing table, poop squirted up his back all the way to his head! Hubby is like you when it comes to poop. I almost died laughing as Hubby was freaking out!

  12. Ha ha ha! This made me laugh, I'm sorry for that, but I've been working in daycare for 3 years, so at this stage I'm immune to poopy diapers. I've probably seen every kind of poopy diaper that you can imagine, including the ones that manage to escape out of the diaper & explode. We've one baby right now who has those kind of diapers a lot! The worst thing for me is when they're being toilet trained, and they poop in their pants. That's the kind of clean up where I feel like gagging. Give me a poopy diaper any day over that!

  15. Oh how I love your blog. You don't leave anything out dirty or clean! lol I'm a gagger too! I read that if you smile when you feel like you are going to gag it'll keep you from gagging. It's worked for me.
