Baby food to last a lifetime

This past weekend, after a trip to Wholefoods, I decided to make enough baby food to last trough the rest of Peanut’s baby food stage.

Well, not literally, but I did make a lot.

I started with this:
Zucchini and yellow squash from our garden.
Apples
Pears
Peaches
Plums
Sweet potato

Don’t they look delicious?

And of course, my immersion blender.

Plus my “cookbook.”

Then I started with the items that needed to bake since they take the longest.

De-boned peaches and plums.  I also put the sweet potato in the oven.

While these puppies were baking, I was boiling/steaming the rest.

Zucchini, pears, apples and yellow squash - pureed.

And after everything cooled off, I put it in ice cube trays.

(This is just the boiled stuff!)

I actually ended up having to run out and buy more ice cube trays to finish the job.

But now we have about 150 ice cubes of baby food to mix and match as we please.

We even have a few new foods to introduce to Peanut like plums and peaches.

Do you make your own baby food?

Did you know I used to cook for my dogs?

  2. That is serious dedication! Lucky little Peanut :)

I never thought to make my own dog food, but I have considered baking some biscuits or other kind of treat. Great idea!

  6. lucky peanut! :) I wish I could find the motivation/time to do that too. I tried (and failed) a while ago to make some homemade baby food. I need to get back on the horse.

  10. Funny! I did this too this week! Unfortunatley I couldn't fit it all into one afternoon, since I work on the weekends and there is no way that Katie would be patient enough to share me with the kitchen all afternoon! Instead I had to stretch it out over 2 afternoons. I did nectarines, plums, carrots and sweet potatoes! The nectarines and plums are new but she has loved everything she's tried so far, my happy little eater! :-)
